The song went to number one on the Billboard R&B chart, was certified gold, and received a nomination for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. Innovate. Captivating. Powerful: three words that describe musician and music producer, Ron Jerome Avant, best known professionally as T.Nava. Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, T.Nava always finds a way to submerge himself into the music scene. His symphonic contributions and uniquely prolific vibes ascribe to his vehement musical foundation and upbringing. His roots of soul music stemmed from growing up in a family of singers and musicians. Music from iconic artists like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Herbie Hancock, and Oscar Peterson were always filling his home’s airways. During his humble beginnings, he taught himself how to play the family piano by ear. Shortly thereafter, he began to develop an interest in playing percussion and became a Jazz Studies student at the prestigious School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio. During his high school tenure, he became a member of NuSoul, an award-winning Jazz/Neo-Soul trio, affording him the opportunity to travel all over the United States.

After graduating in 2005, T.Nava chose to attend the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California. There, he began performing live at various churches and school concerts. Establishing notoriety as a professional musician, he built rapport and became a touring musician for Snoop Dogg, Willow and Jaden Smith, Nas, Dr. Dre, Brother Ali, The Pharcyde, and Mayer Hawthorne. Furthermore, he began to earn credits as a writer for Macy Gray, Carmit Bachar (Pussycat dolls), Bobby Brown, Jason Derulo, Chris Brown, Fergie, and Jhené Aiko. In 2012, through his collaborative efforts, he officially joined forces with multi-instrumentalist, rapper, producer, and songwriter Anderson .Paak. As a result, soul-slapping albums LoveJoy (2012), Venice (2014), Yes, Lawd! (2016), Malibu (2016), Oxnard (2018), and Ventura (2019) were released – leading to tours internationally across Australia and Europe. Showing no signs of slowing down, T.Nava landed features on both the “Gidget” and “Oslo” tracks on the band’s funky, eclectic self-titled album. The buzzworthy album led to guest appearances on major platforms such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sway in the Morning, Complex, The Guardian, Forbes, Hot New Hip Hop and more.

With legendary comedian Richard Pryor as his inspiration, Mark made his debut in Oakland and eventually became the city’s most sought-after stand-up comic. His success there paved the way for comedy-club bookings all over the world.

After party djs:
Russ & CJ

host: Chris Spencer

He is a writer and producer, known for Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (1996), Postal (2007) and Real Husbands of Hollywood (2013).

Sunday’s host:
Robin Latimore

Robin started singing as a little girl for devotion at her mother’s revival services and in church. “When your mom is the minister, you don’t have a choice”. It was her parents who sparked her musical interest. Her dad had a passion for traditional and contemporary jazz as well as big band swing, and her mom pushed gospel and inspirational music. Together, Robin developed a love for these two genres more than any other.

She is a graduate of The Fort Valley State College where her talent was nurtured and requested highly. After winning several talent competitions there, people started noticing that this young lady had talent. She joined her first band in 1988. The Darren Winters Ensemble displayed a huge array of different music styles and this was something that sparked Robin’s interest in singing more than one type of music. She is no stranger to R & B, Rap, Country Western, and other alternative genres. She is heavily influenced by her idols Phyliss Hyman, Layla Hathaway, Oleta Adams, The Clark Sisters, Kim Burrell, Maysa, and Jennifer Holiday.

Even with all this, Robin couldn’t (and wouldn’t) escape her gospel heritage. She started working as a choir director in Warner Robins, Georgia at the age of 19 and has continued to share her views on gospel music as well as teaching it with several denominational churches. “It gives me such a rush when gospel music is sang and ministered with passion”. She continues to do this same type of work, as she is the current Music Director of a prominent Baptist church in Lithonia, Ga.

Currently, Robin is the lead vocalist for her band “Robin Latimore and the Bad Boys”. She has recently shared the stage with jazz greats Johnathan Butler, Maysa, Rachelle Ferrell, Michael Franks, Phil Perry, and Jeff Lorber. As exciting as that was, she anxiously awaits the release of her upcoming CD project. This project has an anticipated release of late Summer 2015.

With her already hectic schedule, she continues to flourish her self-made business, Robin’s Singing Telegrams of Atlanta. “This business will always be my baby. The looks of disbelief, the tears, and the shock of the whole experience makes me want to do this forever!”
